The Mobile Office

Quite often someone will tell us that this is great software but simply not practical.

Below we have some images of a setup that we take on the road with us. But just before we show those, remember, that if you do not want to take a laptop on the road with you, or do not have one and just have a desktop machine in the office, that every system provides reports that can be printed out to take with you when going out for the day.

Below is a setup we take with us to demonstrations. It is portable and there are a variety of options. The figures we quote and specifications are the ones that work for us. They are only provided to show you that this really is a practical solution. Obviously the choices you make are up to you!

Using components that can be bought off the shelf, or make your own, you can provide and use all the features you enjoy in your office with this highly practical and affordable solution.

The Components:

Do you really need power? Well the answer is no. All the components we have chosen will work on a battery. They do not even need cables as they can use either Infra Red or Bluetooth connectivity technology.

But for maximum flexibility, we use a device that plugs into the cigarette lighter socket of your vehicle. The one shown provides connection to a standard 3 pin socket in the UK, which of course you can connect to a ganged socket to run multiple units from one power connection.

Here we have chosen a standard aluminium case. Lightweight and heavily padded, you can cut the interior foam panels to suit your purposes.

Canon IP100 Pixma Mobile Printer

Battery or mains power with Bluetooth or USB connection this ultra flexible printer with a small footprint offers the ideal mobile printing solution.

It does not requires special thermal paper and makes use of standard A4/Letter size paper, so you can continue to use your standard letter headed paper if you wish.

Toshiba Portege M400

Running Windows XP Tablet or Windows Vista Tablet this compact but rugged tablet machine offers the ideal solution for our software.

Designed to work using a standard keyboard you can also make use of a lightpen (provided). This means that no keyboard is required and the machine can be operated in a dirty environment.

Handwriting recognition software is included making data entry quick and flexible.

The screen is protected by a heavy duty glass cover and is shock resistant so ideal for the equine environment. Portability is enhaced with it's lightweight but rugged construction.
